Weighted indicates that underlying sample of individuals in the Family Resources Survey (FRS) has been weighted or 'grossed up' to represent groups of individuals with certain characteristics in the whole population.
Median income is the middle Household income identified by dividing the population of individuals, when ranked by income, into two equal-sized groups.

Weighted Mean of Household Income from State Support in year prices (weekly, in nominal terms)

Weighted indicates that underlying sample of individuals in the Family Resources Survey (FRS) has been weighted or 'grossed up' to represent groups of individuals with certain characteristics in the whole population.
Mean of household income is calculated by adding up incomes for each household in the population and dividing the result by the number of households.

Description

The income received by the household from State Support (disability benefits, Tax Credits, State Pension, Income Support and Pension Credit and other benefits) in year prices (weekly, in nominal terms), as reported by FRS respondents, where:

A household consists of one person living alone or a group of people (not necessarily related) living at the same address, who share cooking facilities and share a living room or sitting room or dining area. A household will consist of one or more benefit units.
'Disability-related benefits' is the term used to describe all benefits paid on the grounds of disability. These are:

Personal Independence Payment
Disability Living Allowance
Severe Disablement Allowance
Attendance Allowance
Armed Forces Compensation Scheme
Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
Adult Disability Payment
Child Disability Payment
Troubles Permanent Disablement Payment Scheme

There are two types of Tax Credits, Working Tax Credits and Child Tax Credits, which are paid by HM Revenue & Customs.

Applicable to: all individuals in a household.

Quality Statement

Before 2008 to 2009 Incapacity Benefit was also in the 'disability-related benefits' group.

Tax Credits are being phased out, as they are replaced by Universal Credit.

For any adults who are over State Pension age, any State Pension plus any Pension Credit which is received; these benefits are shown together because of known problems with separating these amounts for pensioners.
